The Napa Valley Wine Train tested its newly refitted Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) locomotive number 71 today. The locomotive departed Napa at 4:00pm and ran tests on a section of track near Yountville until 7:00pm. Locomotive #71 has reduced emissions due to the use of compressed natural gas as a fuel. It also has a newly installed computer controlled fuel injection system designed to fire only a few of the 12 cylinders at a time, which results in an overall energy savings by reducing waste.

"'Nine local businesses, four schools and two apartment complexes received monetary awards today totaling $12,500 to recognize outstanding success in recycling in 2007. The awards were presented at the Second Annual Recycling Awards This incentive-based awards program rewards schools, businesses and apartment complexes for not just doing the right thing, but for doing it extremely well.

The Napa Valley Wine Train has reached an agreement with the Army Corps of Engineers and the Napa Flood District regarding the Flood Control Project. "The flood project and Napa Valley Wine Train have reached an agreement that will allow a major railroad relocation to begin this fall, both parties announced. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is scheduled to award a contract for $40 million or more this summer to move track, build two railroad bridges and make depot modifications.

The Napa Valley Wine Train has changed the lighting in the McKinstry Street station in order to reduce the lighting load by 50%. Working in conjunction with an outside contractor, the Napa Valley Wine Train was able to change the ballast from the energy wasting electromagnetic ballast to the more energy efficient electronic ballast. The lights were also replaced with a smaller, yet higher lumen output color corrected bulbs. The Napa Valley Wine Train plans to implement similar efficiency measures in the future.
