Welcome to a behind-the- scenes discovery of a Napa Valley legend: Grgich Hills Estate. It’s simple. Charming. Quaint. Inside, you’re surrounded by oak barrels and the enticing aromas of wine at
various stages of its journey. Outside, a beautiful patio. Yet beneath the terroir, a story you might not expect. You’d never guess that part of this winery’s history once took the wine world by storm.
If you haven’t heard of the 1976 Paris Tasting, you soon will. The scene? A blind tasting of renowned white Burgundies from France and a sampling of new Napa Valley Chardonnays. Shocked French judges selected Mike Grgich’s 1973 Chateau Montelena Chardonnay as the finest white wine in the world. Mike Grgich became a legend and the foundation of Grgich Hills’ winemaking legacy was laid: producing world-class wines sustainably, with care and passion.
Taste the wine that put Napa Valley on the map. Your journey begins on the Northbound Train with a chardonnay flight. But this is no ordinary tasting. This is The Paris Judgment flight, featuring wineries that were all producing delicious wines in 1976 and submitted wines in the famous tasting:
And there, on our intimate vintage luxury rail car, Chef will prepare for your enjoyment Grilled Pacific Prawns, Maine Lobster Arancini, poached hearts of palm, charred radicchio, fennel basil puree. And this is only the beginning.
Your journey takes you on a behind-the- scenes tour of the Grgich cellar and production then settle in by the winery’s newest feature: a pizza oven overlooking the vineyards, where you will savor Brick Oven Braised Short Rib of Beef, Pt. Reyes blue cheese marble potatoes, thyme roasted wild mushrooms, Calabrian chile Broccolini, cabernet reduction. And of course, an exclusive taste of a variety of Grgich Hills wines:
After your exclusive evening at one of Napa’s most celebrated winemakers, a special treat is waiting for you back on board the Train. And your tranquil train journey through spectacular Napa Valley. Savor every bite as you travel through the stunning twilight.
