Be transported back to a time before planes were cutting travel time across the United States to hours rather than days, to when trains were the luxurious and elegant way to move about the country. Guests could explore the train as the land slipped by. The opulent decor allowed guests to relax comfortably as they await their freshly prepared meals in dining cars, the heart of train life.
The Napa Valley Wine Train is keeping alive the tradition and art of food preparation in a confined space: on board an operating train. Three onboard kitchens allow our chefs to create works of art from scratch and to order, far from the microwaved ready meals of modern times.
Executive Chef Kelly Macdonald has been in the Napa Valley Wine Train’s kitchen for over twenty years, much of that time spent as the Executive Chef. Chef Macdonald designs menus for each dining experience, changing seasonally, and one-of-a-kind options for special events, sourcing ingredients locally and sustainably.
The Napa Valley Wine Train is foremost a restaurant, and we take pride in the gourmet quality cuisine created on our antique moving train.
Allergies and Dietary Restrictions:
Every day, we serve a variety of guests with different dietary restrictions and food allergies. Like any good restaurant, all of our menu choices are freshly prepared to order. In our case, they are all prepared on board the Train. With advance notice, we will be better equipped to handle your special menu request. When making your reservation, please alert your booking agent of your needs. The agent will submit your information to our kitchen staff and to our on board manager. It is also necessary to remind your server which member of your party has the allergy. Rest assured, we handle hundreds of allergies weekly and with ease. We look forward to serving you and your family soon.
